Kinthalas has been a Phanker for over 2 years. This week she decided that she needs to take a break from gaming. It is not an uncommon phenomonon, and so I decided to interview her and get a glimpse into her thinking.
V = Veenu and K = Kinthalas
V- When did you first start playing video games? What game(s) was it?
K-My first gaming experience was the Atari. That thing was ancient when I started playing it, but still really good times. Fathom, Adventure and Haunted House were some of my favorites.
V- When did you start going online to communicate with others, was it in games? What got you to try out online?
K-Actually the reason my family got internet was so my brother could play EQ. He quit and I took his account over.
V- What was your first online game? How many hours did you play it, and did your play time ramp?
K-Everquest was my first and only mmorpg. I played way too much (check out my highschool grades, blame = EQ).
V- What got you to log in each day?
K-EQ itself got me to log in for the first year or so. Then it was a mixture of friends and the game. After that it was mainly just the people I knew.
V- You don't post your picture online like many RL beautiful female players, why is that?
K-Because Im not beautiful :p Honestly though, I like my privacy and personal space. Im very big into my own space.
V- You play EQ as good as any hard core male character, you are also a firey and fierce personality when you want to be. What drives you to be a powerful female player?
K-Ive always played games to have fun. For most games I just have an innate talent. I wouldnt say I'm anywhere near one of the best EQ players though, its hard to judge on skill alone. My personality is just me. You can either take it or leave it and it doesnt matter to me either way. Im not in to doing what people want or expect me to do.
V- Do you have any favorite quotes or online philosophies, or philosophies offline that apply to games and life?
K-'If I gave a fuck there would be nothing for me to prove' You really need to not take life seriously and make the best out of it that you can. Thats what I get from it.
V- What has made you decide to take a break?
K-Some personal dilemmas. Trying to do a bit of soul searching too, feel like a big part of me is missing in some ways.
V- What game is most likely to bring you back, or will it even be a game or a state in your life that really matters?
K-I really dont know if Ill be back into the MMOs. We will see what happens in the future and how things shape up.
Kinthalas is now getting straight A's and finds time to squeeze in a little CS here and there. We at Phank miss her all the time, but are equally happy with her kicking ass in the real world as in game.
